about
PYARA KERKETTA FOUNDATION
PKF brings about social change
through cultural action with a special focus on tribal communities in
Jharkhand. In 1984, few young volunteers from rural and urban India came
together concerned about the plight of the tribal population in Jharkhand.
Of most concern was the feeling that unless something was done about it,
the history, culture, language and identity of tribal population of Jharkhand
would soon be wiped out. Though the laws and policies of mainstream society
determine their lives, the tribal people themselves are in practice excluded
from most democratic and legal processes. Tribals also facing the worst
excesses of prejudice, exploitation, and social exclusion from society.
PKF was conceived as a socio-cultural
group that would work against the social marginalisation of the tribal
communities. The principal objective is to develop alternative media as
the keystone of development. The volunteers believed it was possible to
transform the thought, consciousness and sensitivity of society through
creative interventions.
The major activities of PKF are to create
and perform open-air theatre, and video shows in rural areas by training
tribal people and other excluded communities, develop their capacities
in creative media and journalism to make them self-reliant, and caring
for slum, street and working children by providing them all round development
facilities and fighting for their rights through free legal aid.
about
aadhar ALTERNATIVE media
PKF feels that the existing
media in this age of globalisation and commercilization is providing nothing
for the weaker and deprived section of the society. In such a situation
PKF is working to integrate communication more effectively in the development
process. One of the major objectives of the Aadhar Alternative media is
to train (especially tribal and deprived section) in theatre, print, creative
media and journalism, so that youth of village and small town become self
rely and find employment oppourtunities for themselves, This will help
them to address to the issues of the society from where they come because
they hardly get any chance of expression of their thoughts in the existing
media.
